With regards to Neoplatonism it is curious about Plotinus' teacher Ammonius Saccas:

I looked up in Bailly's dictionary words phonetically similar to 'sakkas' and found a word used by ancient writers such as Herodotus to refer to a people of the Scythians which some people have identified with the Shakya clan (Pali: Sakya and also Sakka !). Maybe the story of Ammonius Saccas is just a myth and play on words (Pali Sakkamuni = Ammonius Saccas) to convey that Plotinus was merely transmitting Buddhism ? It is also curious that the Pali Sakka can also mean the the 'lord of the devas' Shakra - who seems to have played a similar role to the Egyptian Amun or Amun-Ra.
